What a fantastic morning we enjoyed in the garden today, despite the early rain all the students, staff, parents and garden members arrived with great enthusiasm to enjoy and participate in our Schools Arbor Day Event. With over 200 people attending the garden it was a hype of activity with students planting winter vegetable seedlings & herbs, fruit trees, grapes, berries, native plants to provide a wind break behind the amphitheatre and natives to surround our dry creek bed to provide our frogs with a natural environment.
I would like to thank all our hard working garden members who arrived early this morning and set up in the rain, who shared their knowledge and love of our Community Garden with our visitors, without you today it would not of been the great success it was. A very big thank you, your dedication to the ongoing success of our garden does not go unnoticed.
Our visitors enjoyed morning tea from the generous donation of milk drinks and yoghurts from Brownes Dairy and all students and staff received certificates for the day. Thankyou to the Bunnings Balcatta Team who brought their gloves and got dirty helping students plant our natives, Bunnings also donated many of our vegetable & herb seedlings, fruit trees and flowers for the students to have a hands on experience. Waldecks Kingsley has been providing us with some of their goods that just neededs a bit of a touch up (tables, pots etc) they now look great in our garden.
Mr Michael Kennan MP attended the garden again today enjoying his time talking with students and the recent additions in the garden (outdoor kitchen/pizza oven, shade sails etc provided through his grants “Building Stronger Communities”). Councillor Andrew Guilfoyle – City of Stirling Hamersley Ward also a regular attendee at the garden spent time with students and garden members today and has been successful in providing us with a City of Stirling waste bin for the garden and a drink fountain in the near future. Many thanks to Chris Hatton who also attended today and has helped us to have our light restored to working order again.
Our Work for the Dole Project has now ended, however we are very grateful for all the work they have done over many months in the garden. Corrective Services will continue to help us in the garden over the next few weeks they have done a fantastic job in helping us to build and create our community garden, we would not be so far along without their support and hard work.
Thank you to all our wonderful community!
