2017 Program of Events

The Community Garden committee has had a look at our program of events for 2017 at the Garden.

As a result of that review, the committee has decided to focus on our regular Busy Bees and three main events:

  • Bunnings sausage sizzle, on Easter Saturday 15 April – our big fund raiser for the year.
  • Schools Arbor Day in July which is our main interaction with local schools.
  • October Spring Fair and Plant sale.

The Twilight in the Garden second birthday event on March 26 is cancelled.

The committee felt there was not enough time to organise this event to the desired quality and standard given the current and continuing demands on our small and hard-working band of volunteers. The risk of missing the mark and staging a substandard event was too high.

The committee apologises for any inconvenience this approach may cause.

However, with your continued support we will succeed with the other three events.

The Sausage Sizzle is heavily dependent on volunteers manning the popular stall at Bunnings Balcatta. A roster has been drawn up, so if you can spare some time on Easter Saturday ”cooking snaggers” please let us know.  We are also hoping to run a bake stall and raffle on the day so any donations of delicious cakes, slices, biscuits, cupcakes, muffins etc you may be able to provide us with would be very welcome.

Schools Arbor Day event at the Garden is always popular. Last year we had about 200 local school children from three local schools visit the garden. I know the children look forward to participating and then watching the results of their endeavours grow.

The October Spring Fair and Plant Sale is our major community event. We are planning extra features this year including guest speakers and childrens activities, musical entertainment, more and varied stalls and, importantly, a wider range of quality plants for sale. We will have the Pizza oven and BBQ operating too.

Last year this event was very well supported, prompted a spike in memberships and raised valuable funds for Garden equipment, plantings and development. Your feedback, suggestions and contributions on features and attractions are welcome

Our Community Garden is a credit to all our volunteers and gardeners. Everyone is welcome to our Busy Bees, to assist with watering and offering feedback.

Thank you all for your continued support.
